Toasted Pixel Presents:
Your Children Have Gone Wrong
Cosplay is the act of dressing up like cartoon, video game, or other fantasy show
characters.
People who cosplay sometimes bring mayhem and destruction to
everything around them, leaving a wake of shattered lives
and hotel rooms full of fabric samples. Sure, there are plenty
of great examples of good cosplay and great costumes (like the
fellow above, who's bringing happiness and Borg alien attacks
to Star Trek Experience weddings in Vegas).
But here's the point: parents need to make sure they don't
suddenly wake up one morning and realize this is their child:
A 12-year-old posing with a finger
in her mouth may not always be illegal, but
that doesn't necessarily make it right.
Now, this isn't just a warning to parents.
Sure, most cosplayers are young, but
there are glorious exceptions to the rule.
Children too need
to know when to intervene into their parents lives,
before it's too late.
Why do I feel like this will be on the next Amber Alert?
Teach your children that fantasy has its place,
costumes have their place,
and acting out things in your imagination has its place.
More importantly, teach them that one needs to know where
fantasy ends and pictures of you circulating the web
begins.
Once again, we must cool off at this point and give perspective.
Imagination is a wonderful thing that should be nurtured in all its
forms. After all, the minds that come up with great cartoons and
fantasy shows at one point emulated other shows, as these cosplayers do.
And most importantly, you don't need fantasy to be totally creepy and unsettling.
More where this came from, baby, oh yeah
