Resident Evil (2002)

(mpg size: 1.95 MB)

Length of time between the
dismemberment and the falling apart:
5 Seconds.
Level of surprise on his face when he
realizes his brain has been diced:
5

This is the classic "I've just been dismembered, now I'm frozen, in time" scenario, a common theme among dismemberment films. Once he's been hacked into a hundred pieces, he is immediately immobilized, separated pieces and all, until nature takes its course, about five seconds later.

His reaction is the same almost-surprised but mostly "oh well" look he has (interesting mix).

Sin City (2005)

(mpg size: 499 KB)

Length of time between the
dismemberment and the falling apart:
>1 Second.
Level of surprise on his face when he
realizes his brain has been diced:
9

This is the most realistic part of the film, as far as dismemberments are concerned, especially considering that most of Clive Owen's dialogue in the film is with Benicio del Toro's mostly disembodied head.

The top of this guy's head does come off pretty immediately, which makes this the most realistic film on this list. The coolest part of this clip, though, is the fact that the guy's head suddenly looks surprised after his brain is removed from the rest of his skull, as if he's thinking, "Whoa! My brain just left! NOW how am I supposed to think? *dies*"

Underworld (2003)

(mpg size: 5.66 MB)

Length of time between the
dismemberment and the falling apart:
28 Seconds!
Level of surprise on his face when he
realizes his brain has been diced:
10

This is the grand poobah winner of the series. The dismembered man is not only surprised that he's just been hacked up, but he has to be TOLD that his head is in two pieces now. Until then, he actually stands up, turns around, and proceeds to arm himself. If Kate Beckinsale didn't eventually deliver him the message that he's been minced, he probably would've finished out the movie and been in the sequel until someone pointed out to him that's he's got a little something on his face... the other half of his face, woohahaha indeed.

Incidentally, that's the <blink> tag we're using above. We didn't actually know if it would work after all these years. We hope it was for a worthy cause.
