Toasted Pixel Presents:
The Ladies Man Movie

Ghoulies Review

You may remember the 1985 film Ghoulies, which was suspiciously renamed (formerly "Beasties") and released right after the 1984 film Gremlins. These Stan Winston (!) monsters actually had three sequels, including the one where the monsters went to college.

Natch. Now, the original Ghoulies, believe it or not, actually still holds up. It's quite entertaining. Why? Because it turns out that every single thing that happens in the movie happens when men try to score with chicks.

Early in the film, at a party, it's established as clearly as possible that men like women. And we meet our first ladies man.

Next, we're treated to the various ways that men attract mates. The most successful approach among the men, is dancing. This man below attracts the most females around him with his, this:

Of course, you have to admit that the rockin' soundtrack also helped his mojo.

Later, a group of friends at the party all try to figure out something to do, but for some reason, the men seem to interpret everything as innuendo. Enjoy how eagerly men react to hearing a suggestion to play a board game.

It's how I react to hearing those magical words, anyway.

Yes, the board game was suggested by Law & Order: Special Victims Unit's Mariska Hargitay, in her film debut (we're going to speak a lot more on that fact within a week in our Law & Order special, so stay tuned).

Anyway, the party takes place at the home of the main character, who dropped out of school to clean his house (shrug). He asks his girlfriend to move in with her, and she promptly can't keep upright because her hair is pretty enormous.

But since it's his house, he decides which game to play at the party, and he decides to summon demons, which he does in the basement.

And yes, he's summoning demons in a pink shirt and almost piano key necktie.

Like you gentle reader, I too decided the writers must've been pretty cornered when they decided on this plot twist. And I have to say, when he does finally get robes to make demon summoning seem more legit, it doesn't actually make you feel better about watching this guy clean his house.

Why did he summon demons? To gain power and eventually mind control his girlfriend into loving him and his black magic. His plan goes slightly awry when he doesn't actually know what to do with demons and just has them sitting around his house for a great deal of the film.

Eventually, he alienates his girlfriend when he does too much black magic, which takes his soul and gives him ill-fitting contacts that are way off center for the entire movie, with no one on the crew seeming to notice his chronic wandering eye.

Does his plan eventually work? For the answer to that and to see the world's most ideal woman, click here to go to page two of the review.
