Toasted Pixel Presents:
Our Favorite Aspects of the Bat

It's a perfectly natural reaction.

Batman Begins opens today. With it, mystery and mayhem. But why do we love Batman so much? By now, you know that he only saves obscenely wealthy people at museum galas, and wouldn't be caught dead rescuing Mexicans.

All strata of Americans adore him, though, even though he arguably squanders wealth in a town infested by abandoned zoos and arboretums and the unemployed gangsters who inhabit them.

The answer to why we love him is simple. He represents everything we'd love to have! We'd love to have a fortune and not have to work for it! We'd love to have all the toys he has, and we'd love to be able to spend all that time in a batcave while magically not getting covered in guano.

And the character and his world are SO simple, that anyone's imagination can take the idea and make it their own (even when the Batman comics themselves don't have as much imagination).

I guess they ran out of ideas for this pretty fast.

It's such a brilliant and simple concept that even its S&M villains who stick their hands up Batman's ass to make him scream attract all sorts of audiences.

"I'm in so much pain, and this makes me feel pretty awkward!"

Try coming up with a list of Jedi heroes that can accomplish that.
