When 9/11 struck, we got used to the martial law, and the
proparations for war, and the morbid silence outdoors, and
the smoke that wouldn't let you see two blocks away, when
big shots like John Ashcroft told us not to fear. But maybe
we shouldn't have been quite so receptive.

So DC ran for the hills. Fine. Meanwhile, in Manhattan...

But complacency had its price, to be paid in dotcom'ers getting screwed. Royally.
