The movie Serenity is slightly better than this, actually.
(Update by Simon) To be fair, the movie is a lot better than just a pleasing geek or sci-fi film.
In the way that Batman Begins is a great movie that happens to be a comic book film,
Serenity beats the crap out of 90% of the movies out there, and happens to take place
in space. It's a better Western than any Clint Eastwood film, it accomplishes everything that
the new Star Wars trilogy set out to do but failed miserably at (in creating meaningful
battles and characters in space), it manages to be funnier in tense moments than any modern horror film, and
you care about the heroes more than you would in any Die Hard film. And it also accomplished all
this without the benefit of having any major Hollywood actors or British fantasy authors leading its parade.
In a nutshell, it could even beat the impact of the Itchy & Scratchy film, but only time will judge that.
