Online gaming can unite young people from around the world, creating a reverse-Babylon of sorts. People who speak homophobese, racist-bastardish, and tragically 133t misspelli can come together and revel in each others' technical skill at creating and implementing hacks. If it doesn't make you lose your faith in humanity, it's quite a phenomenon to behold. Seeing your good buddy pF.Felcher log on to your Counterstrike server is like seeing a family member enter your home.
Once, I saw the ill-fated Tech TV geeks create a Mech Assault online game to demonstrate Xbox headset capabilities. When people entered the game, waiting for it to start, the Tech TV hosts yelled into their headset, "Hey! We're actually the people from Tech TV! You're on our show! Would you like to say something?" After a thoughtful moment, everyone left the game. That was awesome.
